The History & Future Of Polos
The sky is the limit when it comes to the different ways you can wear polo shirts. Before polo shirts were used for golf and tennis players but when they were worn by tennis players they were called tennis shirts also. These tennis shirts primarily were worn by tennis players as long sleeved shirts and button ups and a tennis player would usually roll up their sleeves when playing tennis ultimately creating an irritating effect on the tennis players during game match ups. This problem had summoned a French tennis player to figure out a unique design to solve this uncomfortable problem that were facing these professional athletes.
Renee Lacoste who was a French seven time Grand Slam champion had designed a new shirt that would have an huge impact in the fashion industry as in the late 1920's; he came up with a newly improved design on the tennis shirt. The new design included newly thought out short sleeves so tennis players wouldn't have to continuously roll up their sleeves while matching up on the tennis court, the back of the shirt was a little bit longer then the front making it less likely for the shirt to be pulled out while tucked into the trousers or shorts, the slight extension of the back was is called a tail, and the material that the shirt was made out of was a form of knit cotton which allowed the tennis players to be even more comfortable.
After tennis player Renee Lacoste retired he had slapped a embroidered logo of a crocodile on the breast of the shirt, hooked up with a clothing merchandiser by the name of Andre Gilliar and went on to become global from that point on. Renee Lacoste's clothing line is now known as and called Chemise Lacoste eventually becoming a trendsetter to all the polo shirts that started to appear throughout the fashion market. Long before Renee Lacoste's design Polo shirts were eventually used for polo players originally being composed of Oxford cloth cotton before being adopted throughout the tennis sport. Another trendsetter of the Polo shirt was Ralph Lauren who popularized the shirt in a broader aspect in terms of marketing by adding the polo shirt to his merchandise and carving out his own image out of the polo shirt.
Today the Polo shirts create a casual appearance but also can keep a person's image quite professional.
