Can I keep a grand piano in a desert climate?

I have a grand piano, beautiful, but I reduced my space life for a couple of years. I have a large storage space in the new place, but no air conditioning, and is still very dry (no moisture at all) and sometimes very hot (100 degrees). Is it safe to keep my piano is not without damaging it?

I doubt it. The heat may be too much for him. Call a piano dealer and ask them. m

River And Desert Plants of the Grand Canyon

River And Desert Plants of the Grand Canyon

$17.48

The Grand Canyon's isolation, great elevational range, and position at the convergence of three North American deserts-the Mojave, Sonoran, and Great Basin-have created unique habitats from an unusual assemblage of plants. Some grow only at seeps and springs, others emerge from cracks in the bedrock, and some live only in the Grand Canyon-for example, Roaring Springs prickly poppy and Grand Canyon flaveria. River and Desert Plants of the Grand Canyonthe first comprehensive field guide devoted to plants that live below the canyon rims, is bursting with beautiful color photographs and detailed line drawings of more than 250 ferns, grasses, forbs, shrubs, and trees. Narratives organized by life form and common family name describe each plant and its natural history, and thumbnail photographs arranged by flower color and shape offer a key for easy identification. Essays by contributing experts explore such topics as Grand Canyon ecology, desert-plant adaptations, biological soil crust, plant pollination, invasive species, and domesticated plants of the canyon's indigenous people.

This work contains magnificent images of a lost culture in the North African desert, contrasted with a depiction of Europe seen through the eyes of unwanted immigrants. The main character, the Algerian guest worker Lalla, is a utopian antithesis to the ugliness and brutality of European society. -- Nobel citation by the Swedish AcademyThe Swedish academy, in awarding J.M.G. Le Cezio the 2008 Nobel Prize in Literature, praised Desert as Le Cleio's definitive breakthrough as a novelist. Published in France in 1980, Desert received the Grand Prix Paul Morand from the Academie Francaise, was translated into twenty-three languages, and quickly proved to be a best-selling novel in many countries around the world.Available for the first time in English translation, Desert is a novel composed of two alternating narratives, set in counterpoint. The first takes place in the desert between 1909 and 1912 and evokes the migration of a young adolescent boy, Nour, and his people, the Blue Men, notorious warriors of the desert. Driven from their lands by French colonial soldiers, Nour's tribe has come to the valley of the Saguiet El Hamra to seek the aid of the great spiritual leader known as Water of the Eyes. The religious chief sends them out from the holy city of Smara into the desert to travel still further. Spurred on by thirst, hunger, and suffering, Nour's tribe and others flee northward in the hopes of finding a land that can harbor them at last.pThe second narrative relates the contemporary story of Lalla, a descendant of the Blue Men. Though she is an orphan living in a shantytown known as the Project near a coastal city in Morocco, the blood of her proud, obstinate tribe runs in her veins. All too soon, Lalla must flee to escape a forced marriage with an older, wealthy man. She travels to France, undergoing many trials there, from working in a brothel to success as a highly paid fashion model, but she never betrays the blood of her ancestors.

THE DESERT by Bryon Morrigan A Lost Platoon, a Dead Soldier, and a horrifying Journal... During the opening engagements of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, a platoon of U.S. soldiers disappears. The Army attributes this disappearance to the fog of war, and the subsequent investigation into the disappearance fails to locate even a single body or destroyed vehicle. Six years later, two soldiers on a routine search for weapons of mass destruction locate a cave with the remains of one of the missing soldiers and his journal. Unfortunately, Captain Henderson and Specialist Densler find out all too soon that what happened to the Lost Platoon is also happening to them. Trapped, they must confront this unspeakable menace, or risk suffering the same fate as that of the soldier in the cave. Bryon Morrigan's first novel, THE DESERT, is everything you hope to find in a first novel and then some. An original plot, solid characterization and a refreshing change of pace from the standard chains rattling in the attic. A fine mesh of horror and military drama that I can't recommend enough. -James A. Moore, author of BLOOD RED & HARVEST MOON The Desert by Bryon Morrigan is a weird and wild novel of men againt monsters. In the grand tradition of James Cameron's Aliens, Bryon Morrigan gives a whipcrack tale of U.S. soldiers pitted against the very forces of Hell. It's fun, fast-paced, and deliciously creepy. -Jonathan Maberry, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of GHOST ROAD BLUES & BAD MOON RISINGDuring the 2003 invasion of Iraq, a platoon of U.S. soldiers disappears. Six years later, two soldiers locate a cave with the remains of one of the missing soldiers and his journal. Trapped, they must confront an unspeakable menace or suffer the same fate as that of the soldier in the cave.

Heart of the Desert Wild combines naturalist writer Greer K. Chesher's thought provoking prose with photographer Liz Hymans' spectacular panoramic images to evoke the wonder of Grand Staircase-Escalante. Beginning with the land's rocky past and combing through the woven layers of place - native grasses and bighorn sheep, the sound of moving waters and the people drawn to them, strange soils and rare plants - the book provides an intergrated geography of what anthropollogist Clyde Kluckhohn once called the last Holy Place.

Desert Queen

Turning away from the privileged world of the "eminent Victorians," Gertrude Bell (1868—1926) explored, mapped, and excavated the world of the Arabs. Recruited by British intelligence during World War I, she played a crucial role in obtaining the loyalty of Arab leaders, and her connections and information provided the brains to match T. E. Lawrence's brawn. After the war, she played a major role in creating the modern Middle East and was, at the time, considered the most powerful woman in the British Empire. In this masterful biography, Janet Wallach shows us the woman behind these achievements–a woman whose passion and defiant independence were at odds wit the confined and custom-bound England she left behind. Too long eclipsed by Lawrence, Gertrude Bell emerges at last in her own right as a vital player on the stage of modern history, and as a woman whose life was both a heartbreaking story and a grand adventure.

Grand Canyon: Little Things In A Big Place (desert Places)

Grand Canyon: Little Things In A Big Place (desert Places)

$5.86

Most people would not think of it as a desert, but the Grand Canyon of the Colorado is most assuredly that. With its towering walls barely lapped by the river, the canyon at its floor is a desert place unto itself. Ann Zwinger, a master of exposing the heart of the wild world, plumbs the very soul of this majestic place, exploring the deserts along the Colorados banks in order to examine things that often go unnoticed against a backdrop of overwhelming grandeur. Whether drawing our attention to a newly unfurled evening primrose, a ladybug at work on a leaf full of aphids, or the amazing appearance of a humpback chub slipping through the water like a pewter ghost, she opens a new window on the Canyon at river level to show us that small things of overpowering beauty can be found in a place whose intrinsic splendor is nothing less than staggering. Michael Colliers photographs also offer readers a view of the Canyon that may surprise anyone accustomed to more panoramic perspectives. Here are dramatic and mysterious images of not only rocks and rapids but also the intimate manifestations of nature that Zwinger describes. And for those who have never rafted the Colorado, Colliers dramatic photographs are the next best thing. IGrand Canyon: Little Things in a Big Place/I is a book that will appeal equally to first-time Canyon visitors and long-time Zwinger and Collier fansa book to return to time and again to contemplate the beauty of this timeless place.
