Georgia on Your Vacation Mind
With a combination of southern hospitality and modern conveniences, a Georgia family vacation may be the perfect solution to your vacation destination question. A trip to the beach or a weekend on an island may be the ideal choice for your family’s next vacation. Then again, hiking through the wilderness or rafting down a lazy river may suit your family better. Either way, Georgia has these and many other options to offer vacationers.
Consider vacationing on an island. There are many islands located off the coast of Georgia. Stroll along historic paths as you learn about the history of Saint Simons Island. This island features a ghost walk, a trolley tour, botanical scavenger hunts and many free activities for your children.
The Fort Pulaski National Monument located on Tybee Island provides a glimpse into this island’s past. Comfortable walking paths meander through this historic military park. Water enthusiasts will enjoy kayaking in the sea off Tybee Island. You can climb to the top of a real lighthouse while visiting this island and tour the Lighthouse Museum. Take a Dolphin Tour with Captain Mike or visit the Marine Science Center while visiting Tybee Island.
Families who prefer to keep their feet on the ground will find numerous locations that will provide hours of hiking, fishing and golfing. Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park, which is located in the Pine Mountain area, has campsites, cabins and RV facilities.
Hikers will take delight in the varied and unique landscape along the trails of the southern end of the Appalachian Trail. Birdwatchers from all over the country enjoy this park for the numerous species of birds for whom this beautiful part of Georgia is home.
Amicalola Falls State Park, located near Dawsonville, is one of Georgia’s most popular parks. Amicalola means “tumbling water” in Cherokee. The fresh water fall that is over 700 ft long is the longest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. This park has accommodations from campsites and cabins to a state of the art mountain top motel. For the energetic family, this park offers an eight and half mile hiking trail to the top of the waterfall.
Native American historical sights such as Kolomoki Mounds Historic Park and Etowah Indian Mounds Park will offer an insight into the first Americans. Early American history buffs will find many Georgia parks to their liking.
The Savannah Historic District located in Savannah provides a glimpse into how life was during the Civil War in Georgia. The Jefferson Davis Memorial Historic Park allows visitors to see a different side of the Civil War.
The Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is located in Atlanta, Georgia. With reservations a guided tour through the house where Martin Luther King Jr. was born is possible. Special programming for children and educators is just one of many unique features this park has to offer.
Amusement parks are located all over the state of Georgia. Six Flags Over Georgia is located on over 100 acres of land. Along with heart-stopping ride this park provides music concerts, competitions, and seasonal events such as an October Fright Fest.
Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park located in Valdosta provides thrill seeking rides and water drenching fun for all family members.
Georgia vacations offer something for every one in the family, young and old alike!
